Photography Scholarship Available
The 2010 Photography Scholarship from the Alexia Foundation is now accepting applications. Even though this is considered a Photography Scholarship you do not have to be an extraordinary picture taker. Unlike many Photography Scholarship opportunities, this is not an portfolio contest. Rather, this is a contest on the best picture story. So, what is a picture story anyway? It is where you take a set of of pictures, usually 10 to 20, that makes up a story or documentary covering a certain topic. For the Photography Scholarship being offered by the Alexia Foundation, the topic is a picture story that explains your idea for a set of pictures that will promote world peace and cultural understanding.
This is a perfect Photography Scholarship if you are socially conscious and think you can tell a story. You can find examples of past winners on the website, which will give you some idea of what they are looking for. Also on the site there are the full rules to the scholarship.
Applications must be received by February 1, 2010 to be eligible.
The winner of the scholarship will receive a full scholarship ($15,000) to study photojournalism in London for the fall semester through Syracuse University Abroad. There is also other smaller scholarships that will be awarded.
