Essay Scholarship for Dads and Students

Have desk, will write

Image by Bright Meadow via Flickr

So we all know that in order to get most scholarships, aside from the scholarship contests, more often than not an essay is required. Plus all that other stuff like financial records, history of community service, etc. But this Essay Scholarship for Dads and Students has only a couple simple criteria in order to enter.

First, you have to be a US citizen age 17 or older and either be enrolled or planning to start a higher education program within the next 12 months. And you do not have to be a full time student, part time is fine. Planning on taking classes online? Well that is fine too. You can either be attending or plan to attend a campus-based or online school.

Also, there are no criteria on how you can spend this Essay Scholarship for Dads and Students. It can be used on tuition, books, room and board, computers, or whatever else you need for your education.

So, what does the essay have to be about? Simple. Just answer the question “What is your #1 goal for going to school” in 150 words. I know, it may sound simple but writing a creative essay to win this scholarship will take some time, which is okay, since the deadline is May 31, 2010.

To enter just go to http://www.collegeispower.com/content.cfm?area=4 and fill out the online application.

Seal of DuPage County, Illinois

Married and Single Dads and Moms are returning to school and searching for scholarships. The fact is that the economy has hit most of us pretty hard in the old pocketbook. Many are now without jobs, but the bills still keep rolling in each and every month, leaving many Americans on the brink of bankruptcy. This is the reason that there are so many adults returning to the educational scene. We have mouths to feed and kids who depend on us.

Thankfully, some of the institutions of higher learning are listening and are now offering some Single Parent Scholarships to those of us returning to school. After all, adult students are usually a better risk when it comes to scholarship and grant money. We know quite well what it means to do without and what it takes to make ends meet, which also makes us determined to succeed.

The College of DuPage is one such institution offering Single Parent Scholarships to residents of the 502 District in Illinois, which is most of DuPage County and parts of Cook County and Will County. To be eligible for these Single Parent Scholarships in Illinois you must be a resident of district 502, keep a continued GPA of at least 2.0, maintain at least a part-time status, be a single parent with at least one dependent child, complete the FAFSA, and enroll in a degree, certificate, or transfer program.

These Single Parent Scholarships are awarded in two payments of $500 each, once in the fall and once in the spring.
