Returning Veteran Scholarship, JROTC Scholarship Program, and Swampscott/Nahant Scholarship Program
Now accepting applications for three different Scholarship Programs in Massachusetts is the Captain Jennifer J. Harris Memorial Scholarship. Three scholarships are available including one for $500 for an enlisted veteran returning from an extended overseas combat deployment (6+ months) who is from the North Shore of Massachusetts and who has not yet earned a bachelor’s degree level education; one for $1000 for a Swampscott/Nahant Citizen who has received either a high school diploma or a GED; and one for $500 for a graduating senior in a high school JROTC program on the North Shore from Beverly, Gloucester, Lynn English, Peabody, or Salem.
These scholarship programs are in honor of Capt. Jennifer Jean Harris, who was a native of Swampscott, was the first female helicopter pilot assigned to the famed Marine Corps squadron HMM-364 “Purple Foxes.” She served three tours of duty in Iraq, flying casualty evacuation missions, and was killed in action Feb. 7, 2007, when the helicopter she was piloting was shot down.
To apply for one of these scholarship programs in Massachusetts, go to http://www.jjharrisscholarship.com/index.html and return application before the April 4, 2010, deadline.
