Going to medical school is quite expensive, but Doctors for Maine’s Future Scholarships can help with that high-priced tuition. This scholarship amount is $25,000 and is renewable, meaning you can get $25,000 per year for four years. This scholarship, though, is can only be used at an eligible Maine-based medical school program and for 2009/2010 include Maine Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program (MMC – TUSM Medical School Program) and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Students applying have had to live in Maine for at least one year and not just for educational purposes. This scholarship is aimed at addressing Maine’s acute shortage of primary care doctors, along with the high cost of a medical education. Interested students should contact the Maine-based medical schools to which they are applying for admission to receive information about how to apply for the scholarship.

There are scholarships for Dads up for grabs from the ASSE for those pursuing an undergraduate degree in occupational safety and health or a closely related field.

Most undergraduate awards are for full-time students (enrolled in 12 hours or more per semester) pursuing an undergraduate degree in occupational safety & health or a closely related field. This would include degrees specifically in occupational safety, health, and environment, industrial hygiene or occupational health nursing. As you move out from there, you might find majors like engineering (industrial, environmental, etc.), other science degrees, perhaps business. In these cases, the student needs to make a strong case they are committed to safety through their completion of elective courses, personal statement, faculty recommendation, involvement with ASSE student chapter, work experience, etc.

These scholarships are available to non-U.S. citizens, except for the America Responds Memorial Scholarship, the UPS Diversity Scholarship and the Harry Taback 9/11 Memorial Scholarship.

All of the awards offered to full-time students require ASSE student membership except for the Thompson Scholarship for Women in Safety and the Charlie Darnell HSE Memorial Scholarship. If you are applying for an award offered to part-time students (Gulf Coast Past Presidents Scholarship, the Scott Dominguez-Craters of the Moon Scholarship, the Greater Baton Rouge Chapter – Don Jones Excellence in Safety Scholarship, the North Florida Chapter Safety Education Scholarship or the Puget Sound Chapter ASSE Scholarship) you must be an ASSE member (regular or professional level).

You can get more information on these scholarships here.
