This is a 10-year scholarship grant program that is being funded by The Port Authority of Kansas City, Mo., and area casino gaming operators. It is open to low-income residents who fall within the range of total annual family income of 80% or less than the median average. This breaks down to the following:

Persons per household

Two – less than $37,391.00
Three – less than $45,617.00
Four – less than $58,704.00
Five – less than $69,547.00
Six – less than $78,521.00
Seven – less than $88,616.00
Eight – $98,712.00
Nine or more – less than $118,155.00

Those who apply for one of these $1000 scholarships available must be pursuing an education at an accredited secondary 2 or 4-year institution and the money can be used on tuition, books, room and board, and activity fees.

This is a renewable scholarship as long as winners remain full-time students, stay in good academic standing with the institution attending and continue to live in a household that falls within the above income brackets.

Deadline for these scholarships available in Kansas City is May 1st of each year. For more information, visit www.kcmo.org/youth.
