Alaska Scholarship Available
Scholarship applications are being accepted by the North Star Volunteer Fire Department (NSVFD). The NSVFD scholarship program is open to Alaska residents planning to attend University of Alaska-Fairbanks (UAF).
NSVFD will be awarding six scholarships for each semester. Scholarships are renewable each semester for up to 2 years of study provided the student is fulfilling all the requirements of the program. This scholarship program requires participants to be live-in firefighters/EMT with NSVFD. We are starting an eligibility list for the 2011 fall semester.

A total of 6 scholarships will be awarded to students attending UAF. Housing will also be available at no cost as part of the live-in program.
In order to qualify for this Scholarship in Alaska, you must:
- Be a High School Graduate or have a GED
- Have a GPA of 2.5 or above
- Be accepted as a full time, degree-seeking UAF Student (12 or more credits)
- Be 18 years of age by August 16, 2011
- Have the ability to cover station duty and respond to incidents at least ten 24-hour shifts a month
- Attend 50% of Department Tuesday evening training meetings
- Have a valid Alaska Driver’s License
- Be physically able to perform the duties of firefighter
